The physical edition of GTA 6 does not include a disc. The box contains a code you redeem for the digital download. Rockstar confirmed this in its pre-order details: “Physical copies of GTAVI will contain a code that can be redeemed for the digital download of the game. A disc will not be included in the box” (Push Square). The boxes go on sale November 12, 2026, the same day pre-loading starts.

Only the Standard Edition ($79.99) has a physical version. The Ultimate Edition is digital only.

Once redeemed, a code-in-box copy behaves exactly like a digital purchase. It sits in your PlayStation or Xbox library and downloads like any other digital game.
Why buy the box then?
There are still a few good reasons:
- Price. Retailers sometimes discount the physical copy, while console store prices rarely drop before launch.
- Gifting. A box is easier to wrap and give than a digital code.
- Payment. You can pay in a store, use store credit or a retailer gift card.
- Collecting. Some people simply want the case on the shelf.
Reasons to buy digital instead
- The GTA+ month. Rockstar’s free month of GTA+ is for digital pre-orders; it isn’t mentioned for physical copies. See GTA 6 pre-order bonuses.
- Pre-load timing. A digital pre-order starts downloading on November 12 automatically. With a box, you need to have it in hand and redeem it first.
- Ultimate Edition. It’s only sold digitally.
Will there be a disc version later?
Rockstar hasn’t announced one. Some reports have speculated about a disc release after launch, but nothing official exists. Plan around what’s confirmed: a code in a box.
